Build a marketplace app
Create an app in the developer portal and configure its OAuth settings.
Marketplace apps integrate with HowdyBell using OAuth 2.0. You manage your apps in the developer portal: sign in to HowdyBell and open howdybell.com/developers.
Create an app
- Log in to the developer portal.
- Click New app.
- Fill in the required fields:
- Name: 2 to 80 characters.
- Tagline: Up to 140 characters.
- Description: Up to 10,000 characters.
- Redirect URIs: 1 to 10 addresses your users are sent back to after they allow access.
- Scopes: Select the permissions your app needs. See Scopes.
- Choose a billing mode:
- Platform: HowdyBell bills the customer monthly ($1 to $1,000, with an optional free trial of up to 30 days) and pays you. See Charge for your app.
- External: You bill the customer on your own payment page.
- Click Save.
The portal displays your Client ID and Client secret. Copy the secret immediately. It is not shown again.
Configure listing details
To publish your app, you must provide:
- Icon: PNG, JPEG, WebP, or GIF. Max 2 MB.
- Screenshots: Up to 8 images.
- Support email: A valid email address.
- Website: Optional URL.
- Privacy URL: Optional URL.
- Terms URL: Optional URL.
Rotate the client secret
If you suspect your secret is compromised, rotate it.
- Go to your app page.
- Click Rotate secret.
- Copy the new secret.
Rotating the secret replaces the current one immediately. Any existing integrations using the old secret will stop working.
App status
Your app starts in Draft status. You can test it in your own workspace while it is a draft.
When you are ready to publish:
- Ensure all required fields are filled.
- Click Submit for review.
- The status changes to In review.
HowdyBell reviews your app. If approved, the status changes to Published. If rejected, you will see a Review note explaining the issue.
Unpublish
You can unpublish your app at any time.
- Go to your app page.
- Click Unpublish.
The status changes to Unpublished. Existing installs remain active, but new users cannot install the app.
